Tv Shows: An Update

Friday, January 23, 2015

Last time I talked about the tv shows that I watched it was in 2013. A bit more than a year later and I think it deserves to have an update because lots of new shows made it to my list and lots of them got lost in the way.
Outlander: It follows the story a WWII nurse Claire Randall (Caitriona Balfe) who in the year 1945 goes to Scotland on a second honeymoon with her husband Frank (Tobias Menzies), and from there she travels back in time to 1743. From then on you go on this adventure with Claire as she tries to hide her secret and return to her own time. In the mean time she encounters a Highlander named Jamie Fraser (Sam Heughan) who will most definitely make you swoon. I should mention that the show is based on the highly popular Outlander book series by Diana Gabaldon. You will also love the scenery of this show as it is set in Scotland, the landscapes are just breathtaking. Also.. men in kilts. Need I say more?

The Walking Dead: As much as I love this show I think it would have been so much better if it was picked up by a network other than AMC. I just feel the network is limiting the show itself. I mean they don't even curse and you would expect them to curse since you know.. walkers everywhere but nope. Of course I really love the show and the fact that they are not scared of killing big characters is very entertaining for me. The soundtrack is killer too. Another thing that gets my attention is that the make-up for the walkers gets better each season. Very well done.

You're the Worst: The main characters Jimmy (Chris Geere) and Gretchen (Aya Cash) really are the worst but hey! they seem to be perfect for each other... maybe. Every episode had me laughing and it's a rare thing to love sporting characters as much as leading ones but Edgar (Desmin Borges) is an hilarious character. This is a must watch if you love original content and not cheesy romantic comedies.

Shameless: Every season of Shameless leaves me wanting more because I love the Gallagher's and how they never have their shit together. Having to put up with Frank (William H. Macy) makes the show fun for me because he is impossible to put up with. This show is messy, raw and emotional and I like that about it. And you never know what kind of mess these characters are going to get themselves into but you are on for the ride.
Arrow: Oliver Queen (Stephen Amell) has been presumed dead after his yacht goes missing at sea and after five years he returns to his city having become the Arrow (altough he doesn't get the name until later) to kick ass with his posse. Altough the series has lots of action/crime up in its sleeve it does tend to bore me. Maybe it's because of it's tone, which is 90% serious and 10% not so serious. And that 10% probably involves the lovely, funny, smart Felicity Smoak (Emily Bett Rickards), who is my favorite and I think she's the main reason why the show is a lot better for me, especially this season.

The Flash: Barry Allen (Grant Gustin) got struck by lightning and now he's the fastest man alive. And what will he do with that speed? Fight against crimes of course. Central City will have an hero who is not only handsome but also very smart. And it's a great thing that they got a lot more humor in here than they have in Arrow.

Once Upon a Time: Magical it is. Every season our herous are fighting off another evil character from a different story. And sometimes some characters that you've known to be good might be bad and some bad could be good. I really enjoy this aspect of the show. It fools you but in a good way.

The 100: 97 years after a nuclear war that destroyed Earth we see that survivors on a spaceship called Ark has formed it's own civilization. The 100 juvenile delinquents that are on board are sent back down to Earth to see if it is suitable for living. After they are sent down the adventure begins and they are now on survival mode. The plot is quite interesting and even though it has its flaws it still draws you in. With shows like this I'm just looking for good entertainment and this is exactly that.
New Girl: Jess (Zooey Deschanel) definitely moved into the best apartment in the world. The guys that she lives with couldn't be more cute, weird and awesome. I enjoy watching every episode of the show. The chemistry between the actors really reflect into their characters. It's great to watch and really feel the friendship that has developed between these people. Every single character is unique and the thing that makes them unique is the thing that makes you want to keep watching.

The Big Bang Theory: Right now the show is on its eight season and it has been renewed for two more so we got plenty of nerd to live on. After all the years the characters show change but sometimes they are exactly the same. I really like the episodes where something unexpected happens about the characters. Like when something pushes them out of their comfort zone or lures them out of their shell. Those get the most laughs out of me.

Awkward: The title says it all. This show has been awkward from the get go and it never stopped being exactly that. Most of the time Jenna (Ashley Rickards) is relatable. She is not the most likable character but she doesn't have to be. It's always fun seeing the next awkward thing that the writers shove into our faces.

Masters of Sex: The reason I started the show was mostly because of Michael Sheen and Lizzy Caplan. They portray their characters very professionally that it almost seems real. Another reason is that the series is based on the life and works of Dr. William Masters and Virginia Johnson. Their research on human sexuality was a breakthrough in its time.
Teen Wolf: They are always coming up with interesting storylines that make you wonder throughout the season. The acting is very well, especially Dylan O'Brian. I think he owns every single scene that he is in. He playes Scott McCall's (Tyler Posey) bestie Stiles Stilinski who is definitely my favorite character on the show because he is funny, charming and smart.

American Horror Story: Every season is a different story. First we had our haunted hause, then we were trapped in an asylum, then we were a part of the coven and now we are watching a freak show. The acting is always top notch with AHS and the characters are always unique and interesting which is great as well. But I am not feeling the freak show because something just seems off for me this season. I never felt this way for the other seasons so I'm not sure what to do.

Orange is the New Black: Having transported money for her drug-dealer girlfriend a decade earlier, Piper Chapman (Taylor Schilling) is sentenced with fifteen months in prison. There she meets the other inmates and with her we start to learn about them too. But it's not just Piper's point of view we see it's the other inmates' as well. And I believe that is the reason why the show is so interesting and captivating. From all the characters you are bound to have a favorite and maybe even one you hate.

The Fosters: Quite an interesting show because it shows you this lesbian couple and the relationship they have with each other and with their blend of biological and adopted kids. The relationship is definitely built with lots of love and respect. It's actually normal for me to choose a show from the drama genre but it's not normal that it would be a family show because I don't usually go for that.

P.S. It's a good thing these shows don't air at the same time or I would be in deep shit haha. What do you guys like to watch or would like to start watching?

  3. I absolutely loved the UK version of Shameless, I watched the start of the US and it was basically identical :) Also Orange Is The New Black is one of my favourite shows - I totally agree I love being able to see the viewpoints of all the other characters! X
