Film Photos: Summertime

Saturday, June 28, 2014

I guess I'm continuing with the film photos from the abondoned building but this time these include my friends. They are all very close to me and I love taking their photos. We have so much fun coming up with different poses and concepts. I do photoshoots with Hazal (top photos and some below) frequently because she was quite interested in what I do when we first met but later on Hilal (white shirt) and Havva (denim jacket) started to become a part of this process of making moments eternal. And this particular day Esra (Hilal's sister and our friend since we've been haning out tons) had joined us which was amazing because I got to take photos of her too. Photographing someone for the first time is something that I will always love about photography.

The idea of this photoshoot is not one but many concepts: summer, free souls, friendship, beauty, adventure etc. Anything that you find in yourself you will find in these photos (hopefully!). Don't hesitate to leave comments below about your thoughts

I totally forgot who took this photo of me but I love it.
I used a Zenit 122 and Fuji Superia 200 + Kodak Gold 100 both expired. For more check out my FLICKR!!

Movies, Movies, Movies!

Thursday, June 19, 2014

I can't believe I finally have the time to post this! This was actually suppose to be up on the day that I did my film photography post but I just couldn't wait to share that one with you guys so I changed up the schedule. Also, this post is a day late but my internship started this week and I'm just trying to get used to the routine of waking up and sleeping early (things I usually don't do) and it's been very tiring. So just stay with me throughout the next three weeks and I'll be on here full time, I promise! And hopefully I'll get to commenting on your blogs (and new blogs!) again soon. I miss doing that :) Anyways let's get to the reviews!

Gattaca: I didn't know about this movie until my cousins told me about it in a conversation we were having about which movies we watched that we liked so much and they proposed that I should watch this because it fit into the sci-fi genre that I like very much. It's basically a story about going after your dream but it's hard because you live in a world where only certain type of people (genetically perfect) get that privalage that you need in order to go after that dream and achieve it (because you are genetically inferior). Really loved the storyline, the acting (Ethan Hawke, Jude Law and Uma Thurman?!) and the music.

Snowpiercer: I was curious about this movie because it was Sci-Fi and it had that end of the world storyline. It's about a few people that survived a global warming experiment that went wrong causing the earth to freeze more and more everyday and all of these people were lucky enough to board the train called Snowpiercer, that goes around the earth non-stop. Of course this train has it's own system and the more you are at the back the worse the conditions get. And as a cause of these conditions the people in the back decide to take over the train in order to live better, but of course they will face many obsticales and come to know the truth about the system. I like the storyline but there are some plot holes, beware of that. The acting is not so bad. The movie is dark in color but not gore. Overall it's not bad.

Would You Rather: I heard that this movie was not good but I really wanted to see why it wasn't good. If this idea could've been used with better actors, storyline (character development which was missing in the movie)and directing it might have been amazing. The ending of this movie was okay but I totally saw it coming. Basically it was a waste of time. The villian seemed like a friggen game show host but who knows maybe that's what they were going for since they were playing a "game".

Divergent: This movie was awesome. I didn't know that Divergent would be good because I haven't heard about the franchise (trilogy?) but even though I didn't read the books I felt pretty close to it. From the actors to the music, this movie had it all. It also kind of gave me the same feeling I had when I first watched Hunger Games. The discovering of a new world, getting to know the characters and really loving them. And the fact that Divergent is all about identity and finding out where you really belong and who you really are it totally speaks out to a wide range of people.

Abandoned building on film

Sunday, June 15, 2014

On Friday I went to Yıldız Park with a couple of my friends to have a picnic and to see the kiosks (mansions) that were there. I also knew that this abandoned building (maybe it was a cafe back in the day?) would be there because I saw it on Facebook on this vintage boutique's page and actually asked them where it was. So I had to go and take photos of it and share with you guys. These are the photos I took with my Zenit 122 but I have a few on my dslr that I'm going to share with you too because since the lens is wider you'll be able to see more of the building. I'm just glad I finally got to go after planning to for a whole year. We always managed to delay it but I'm glad we didn't this time because we took a ton of photos and spent a wonderful summer day in the park. It was a day well spent. As I've said I might share more photos from this day, I have quite a few favorites.

It says "Sex is forbidden!" on the window. I thought it was quite funny.

P.S. The last two were from a different roll of film but I really love the one that we created to make it look like someone had left their stuff behind (news paper, sun hat). It looks lovely to me. Which one is your favorite?

Feels like I only go backwards darling.

Wednesday, June 11, 2014

Well hello there! I have been so busy this week but today I had lots of time to my hands to clean up the house and clean up myself (pampering yo) and I decided to squeeze in an outfit of the day for you guys. My sister asked to take me to the marina to take the photos and I wasn't going to say no to that. There was only like 30 minutes till sunset but we managed to take a ton of photos until the guard told us we weren't allowed, which is bullocks since we've done it before. Whatever though we got what we came for and left.

This past weekend we went shopping for arts & crafts (mainly spray paint, cause I got some new project ideas) and we decided to stop by the mall to eat and when we went we saw that h&m had like friggen huge SALE signs up and we were like ":O, we MUST shop".. so we did. I got this sleeveless shirt and this bag I'm wearing (you'll see it down below) from there. They were both on sale and the bag was only like $2.5 so of course I had to get it. The shirt is super comfy and so light, it is absolutely perfect for summer. I totally recommend that you check it out in your local h&m, you won't regret it. The skirt I'm wearing was not on sale or anything and it was from LCW but I fell for the print! My necklace was gifted to me yesterday by a lovely friend. She bought it from her hometown Iskenderun, Hatay, which is in southern Turkey on the Mediterranean coast. I'm so excited to wear this necklace throughout summer, seems it would make any outfit look more sophisticated.

Shirt: H&M
Skirt: LCW
Cardigan: H&M
Necklace: Gift
Bag: H&M
Socks: H&M
Shoes: Lacoste

I've Got A Record Player!

Sunday, June 8, 2014

I've been wanting to get a record player since last year and this year it was my goal to get one (if you want to see my goals click HERE) and guess what? I finally got one for my birthday! Even though it wasn't like a long goals list, it feels so good to cross off something off of it.

The brand of this turntable is La Musica. I've never heard of it before but it doesn't really matter. It looks very much like the Crosley ones and since it would cost pretty much the same but I decided I would just buy this one that just happened to be at a market that we always go to. It was on sale (still not very cheap though) and I really loved the vintage world map design so it was a winner for me. It's a 33/45/78 RPM selectable turntable (the 45 RPM adaptor is included too!) and it has an auto/manual stop. The sound coming from the built in speakers is alright, it's not the best but if I can finally listen to my records then I'm definitely okay with it. I could also plug in external speakers but I haven't had the need for them yet. Also, the turntable can be charged so it doesn't always have to be plugged in and that means you can listen to your records anywhere and anytime you want to! AWESOME!

P.S. Now I'm probably going to start a record collection, I have a whole bunch already lol. Do you guys have record players? or record collections? Tell me, tell me!

Pressing Plants: An Update

Tuesday, June 3, 2014

All the way in Nov.2012 I made a post about pressed plants and recently I thought that it would need an update. There isn't a lot of different trypes of plants around where I live but when I go out I try to collect a few. Since last time I've doubled my collection. I'm pretty fond of it and I thought I share a few pages with you. I gotta say though last time I posted about this I told you guys about my favorite page (click here to see) and that page no longer exists and that's kind of sad. The reason for that is since the plants are dried up and are pretty fragile they can break over time (with movement). That's what happened with a plant on that page and I had to move things around after that. I still have new favorites though and I'm being extra careful. Hope you like the pages, they are quite new except for the last two and the close up one which is my all time favorite!

Oh and I've realized while taking these photos that I really need to buy some pretty tape because regular scotch tape is just not working for me anymore. Anyways, do you like pressing plants? I would love to know!
